Top 5 Takeaways from My First Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras is More Than Bourbon Street: Contrary to popular belief, Mardi Gras isn’t all wild parties. There are plenty of family-friendly activities where people of all ages can enjoy the celebration. So, yes, there’s more to it than Bourbon Street!
There Are No Strangers at Mardi Gras! Every person you meet feels like instant family. The vibe is full of high fives and smiles all day long. I met so many people who treated me like I was one of their own.
Keep Your Hands Up! I learned this one the hard way. Parade floats toss “throws” into the crowd—beads, toys, and more! I was looking in the wrong direction when “SMACK!”—a bead right to the face. Word to the wise: keep your hands up!
...My first Mardi Gras was a mix of laughter, joy, and beads smacking me in the face. But my family and I had an amazing time together.
They Celebrate First-Timers: If it’s your first Mardi Gras, expect to be showered with gifts from everyone around. The love for newbies is unbelievable!
The Kids Are Rockstars! My kids were showered with goodies—teddy bears, footballs, decorated coconuts, hula hoops, hats, beads...you name it. It felt like Toys R Us had joined the party!
Our first Mardi Gras was unforgettable! We laughed, stood in awe, and enjoyed what felt like the world’s biggest block party.
